• Hello Sayontan, thanks again for your great plugin!!

    I have a flickr gallery with photos and 1 video. When you clic on the video it appears the player but it doesn’t play. I have checked with console and it says something like “It fails to load the resource…”. Could you help me, please?

    Here is the link:

    Is this a private album? I am not seeing the album id (72157707973402345) on your list of albums (https://www.flickr.com/photos/parroquiaweb/albums).

    Yes. It is a private album.

    I have added to the same page below the “private” another one “public” with one video and one photo. Still doen’t play the video.

    Hi @sayontan , any news about the problem? I put the videos and pictures as public to see if that could help you to find the problem. Thanks a lot. ??

    Sorry, my day job has been a killer recently.

    I took a look at this, and it seems like this is yet another bug at Flickr’s end, caused due to some changes in how their API behaves. I opened a thread for them, but I don’t know if anyone from their team will respond.

    There is an alternative that is not optimal – of all the video links provided by Flickr only one works: the Flash link. Now, only one of the lightboxes bundled with Photonic uses Flash for Flickr videos: Lightcase. So you can switch to using Lightcase and the videos will show. However this is not optimal as Flash for videos has been disabled by default for almost all browsers, and the video is of low quality when you open it with Flash.

    Thank you very much, Sayontan. Sorry for giving you extra job. I will wait to see if they answer to your thread since using flash is not a good option.

    Once again: THANKS for your wonderful work!!! ??

    I have to say my recent experience with Flickr has been similar. I’ve had a legacy paid Flickr account for as long as I can remember. I’ve always found Flickr quirky but just lived with it because of the unlimited photos and having it as a backup. However the SmugMug acquisition coupled with the recent price rise has made me decide to not continue with a paid account.

    I tried a few tests of posting video using various methods including photonic and I found that videos that I had uploaded after the SmugMug migration appeared to be the ones causing the issues. Older videos using the same camera were fine.

    My experiments are here using Flickr and Zenfolio on the same video files:

    @dougienisbet,
    Thanks for the inputs – so this is a problem that goes beyond the API, which, though unfortunate, probably bodes better because it is likely to get fixed quicker.

    That being said, in my experience videos are treated like the ugly stepchild by most providers. Google does it too, and I have bugged them a lot. In fact, WP galleries by default don’t support videos. This attitude might be because the gallery providers target professional photographers who cock a snook towards videos. Platforms like Instagram on the other hand are more forgiving in this regard as they are more about the social aspect and less about the professional aspect.
