• I haven’t completely made the jump to Gutenberg yet. I’m using it on a secondary site and just making some test post. One thing that is happening is that when I try to write a caption for a photo the caption bounces around the page as I type. When I hit return or click elsewhere it eventually disappears for good.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Pat

What theme are you using? It could be an incompatibility there. Yes, even in the editor, themes can style the editor too. ??

I’m using the Weaver Extreme Theme.

    Thanks,

The Weaver Extreme Theme developer says that haven’t had any issues with this. So it doesn’t appear to be a theme issue.

Any other ideas about why my captions would be floating and disappearing as type them?

    Thanks!

No idea. WordPress doesn’t have any code to make your caption “bounce around the page”. So, do the normal debugging thing, turn off your plugins, and see what’s causing it.

Also maybe try using a different browser. Figure out where the problem is coming from.

    Ok. I’ll try the plugins.

    Thanks.

Well, I have an answer. I was not publishing the pages because I was only testing my pages with the Gutenberg block editor. When I did finally publish a test page with a photo and caption the caption did appear underneath the middle the photo. So even though it bounces around during the editing process, after publishing the caption does appear correctly on the frontend of the site. Also, after being saved, it does appears underneath the middle the photo in the editor as well.

So the problem is semi solved, but it still needs to be fixed by the Gutenberg team.

    Thanks

Can you describe what “bounce around” means then? Because when I’m editing a caption, it doesn’t move at all.

Sorry, I didn’t realize you replied. My WordPress email notifications continually go into my spam, although I continually mark them as not spam.

What I mean by jumps around is that the actually moves in and out of the image block as I type.

    Thanks,

    Pat
