    Dear WP-Support Team,

About every couple of weekends, our SMTP password gets deleted from our settings, and then emails don’t get sent. It has happened twice now; we’ve had to reset the password and send the missed emails out manually. What is happening here? Can you help?

It might be relevant that we use a caching plugin as well as the Succuri Plugin (safety)?

    Thanks in advance.

    Best Regards
    Franz Sauerstein

    Hello there,

Would you please mention which email sending service you are using with Fluent SMTP?

    Thank you

    Hi Amimul,

    We’re using a direct connection to our?SMTP?server.

The issue happened again. Please advise as to how we can fix this.

    Thanks.?

    Best Regards, Franz.

Hello @franz92, FluentSMTP encrypt the password before saving and it use WP SALT keys (defined in wp-config.php) for encryption and decryption. So if your SALT keys get changed then the password will be invalidated.

    Hi,

thank you for your reply. That’s odd. Neither did we change the SALT keys manually, nor can Succuri do that.

Other plugins keep the password (but can’t encrypt it), whereas for us it’s empty. Don’t know if this is relevant. Or this.

What else could cause the password to be invalidated?

It always happens on the weekend.

    Could

    • plugin conflicts,
    • configuration issues in wp-config,
    • server-side caching issues,
    • database issues or
    • updates to WordPress / FluentSMTP or unrelated plugins

    cause this problem?

    Best,

    Franz

Same problem here! Any update about it?

This was really messing us up. I’m pretty sure it is the Sucuri plugin that automatically updates secret keys that clears the password (SALT – as mentioned above). I tested manually generating new security keys in the Sucuri settings and it wiped out the FluentSMTP SMTP password.

With that said, the clearing of the password seems to be something that will be done automatically on a continuous / on-going basis (daily, weekly, etc.), because of the Sucuri setting at:

Sucuri Security” (left menu) > “Settings” > “Post-Hack” > “Automatic Secret Keys Updater” > “Frequency” setting

I’m not going to disable that Sucuri setting (or have to monitor whenever the password gets cleared in the future), so I’ll have to revert back to the plugin I was using (prior to moving to FluentSMTP) that actually worked until there’s a change on this.

    I hope this helps someone… ??

Thank you, that’s very good to know. Maybe the author can work with the Succuri team.
