I am trying to set up File Away but when I try to save the general options page setting the base directory, I get a grey overlay page with a cute saying about saving, but that overlay never goes away — it seems to get permanently stuck in the save process. I can reload the page, but then my changes are lost.

The target directory is created under wp-content and has permissions 775. The files in the directory are 774. (I’m running under Linux.)

Any idea how to fix this problem?

    Thanks,
    John

As a follow-on, it appears that any attempt to save any of the configuration settings hangs; it’s not limited to the base directory setting.

Disable your other plugins and try saving. Then enable them one by one until you can’t save again. That plugin will be the problem.

Thanks, Thom! I disabled all plugins and that did allow me to save config. I should search for the offending one, but we have lots of plugins and little time before the site needs to go live, so that needs to wait for a little while.

You can also do it in blocks of plugins instead of one at a time. Do half of your plugins first, and find out which half the offending plugin is in. Then halve that half, and so on.

I had to update the settings again and just on a hunch I disabled the “File Manager Advanced” plugin and doing so allowed me to save the File Away settings. So that must have been the culprit.
