Hi, I am a WordPress newbie and have inherited a blogsite in need of updating.
I was recently informed subscribers have stopped receiving notifications, this was believed to be a few months ago.
I subscribed and received a confirmation email, which I confirmed, but my email has not been added to the list of subscribers in the JetPack/Site Stats/My Followers (I’ve checked WP and email-only followers).
I see that the JetPack connection is currently in safe mode (I don’t know why, it must have been in safe mode for about 2 years), so I thought this might be the problem.
However there has been no disruption to the page views report in Site Stats so that part of JetPack still seems to be working.
Could you please advise next steps?
    Thank you.

    Hello, there.

It appears that you are using very old versions of WordPress (4.9.16 – Minimum supported version: 5.4), Jetpack (6.5.1 – Minimum supported version: 9.1), and possibly other plugins or themes on your site.

The first step here would be to make sure that all of your plugins, theme, PHP version, and core of WordPress are all updated, and your webhost can help with all of that.

If that does not solve the issue with your subscribers, please try the following exact steps for me:

    1. From the wp-admin dashboard of your site, please go to Jetpack > Dashboard > Connections > “Manage site connection” from your left-hand menu.

    2. Click the “Disconnect” button. If it’s already disconnected, you can skip to the next step.

    3. Deactivate your Jetpack plugin by heading to Plugins > Installed Plugins and finding “Jetpack by WordPress.com.”

    4. Completely uninstall Jetpack.

    5. Reinstall the newest version of Jetpack.

    6. Activate Jetpack.

    7. In Jetpack > Dashboard > Connections > “Manage site connection,” Click the “Set up Jetpack” button and continue through the approval process.

Please let us know the results of this troubleshooting and we can go from there. Thanks!

    Hi Madhatter,
Thanks very much for this advice. I suspect outdated plugins etc. are the culprit. Can you recommend any WP experts or point me to a list of these who could undertake the plugin/theme/PHP/core updates for us?
    Many thanks again.

I have the same issue — New Post notifications are not going to site followers. I deactivated all plugins. Notifications still didn’t go out. I deleted and reinstalled JetPack. Still nothing. I subscribed as a new user. Still nothing. I deactivated my custom theme and used Twenty Twenty. Still nothing. Please tell me how to fix this.

    PHP Version: 7.3.24

    WordPress Version: 5.5.3

    Genesis Version: 3.3.3

    Dynamik Version: 2.6.9.5 (Change Log)

    Thanks.

@rcvsknowledge I would recommend you reach out to your hosting provider for assistance. Request they make a backup of your site before you start updating things in case something goes wrong. Then just start updating everything that is out of date under Dashboard -> Updates.

Your host would also be the best one to help upgrade your site’s version of PHP. Since they’re hosting your site’s files, they also have access to those files and are the best ones to help you with that upgrade.

@mlavoraperry Could you please start your own thread, as per the Forum Welcome?

    Thank you!

    Hi, @csonnek.

I’ll start a new thread. But I want to reply to your first message. I backup my site daily and before each update. I will get the latest PHP version, though. Thanks.
