Can you provide more information about your setup? Is this happening on the front end, back end, or both? Was it working before? What might have changed, any updates or new plugins installed? What version of WordPress are you using, what theme is installed?

You need to have a database for WordPress to work.

If you are using a hosting service that can install WordPress for you I would recommend that.

If not then you need to follow the installation instructions. You can either put the WordPress files in the root directory, or a sub-directory. I prefer a sub-directory, but the installation and configuration is different, and you need to follow the installation steps precisely are it won’t work.
