Hello, my homepage changing font for split second before reverting back. Font flickers when loading before settling to the normal font. I’m using the Twenty Twenty theme. How can I solve this?

  • Hey @huzefamotiwala,

When I visit https://huzefamotiwala.com/ from a new incognito browser window, I am not seeing the font flickering: see the screen video. If you are still experiencing a problem, you will need to report it in the Twenty Twenty support forum: https://www.ads-software.com/support/theme/twentytwenty/.

    Hi @michaelbeil,

The reason is that I changed the theme temporarily. I experience the font flickering on loading in the Twenty Twenty theme.

Since the font flickering is happening only with the Twenty Twenty theme active, I recommend asking at https://www.ads-software.com/support/theme/twentytwenty/#new-post so the developers and support community can help you with this.

I’ve posted the query in the Twenty Twenty theme support forum already. Is your link any different? It brings me back again here when clicking.

I can see that this ticket has been moved over there, so you can just wait for a response.

@michaelbeil This thread has always been in the Twenty Twenty forum, so make sure you check that before suggesting folks re-post in the same place. ??

@huzefamotiwala I don’t see any flickering at https://huzefamotiwala.com/ but you’re also using the HitMag theme now, which you were in Michael’s screencast too.

We can definitely help you with this, but we’ll need to see the problem in action in order to diagnose it.

Hello @macmanx and @michaelbeil, I rolled back to the Twenty Twenty theme. Can you please have a look now? The font flickers before settling to the final size upon loading every page.

I saw absolutely no flicker under Firefox 78.0.2.

First, please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/

If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

I tried by clearing browser’s cache and cookies in the first place. But it did not work. I’ve tried it in Safari, Chrome, and Brave (both on web and mobile). Font flickering occurs for a split second on all of them (on all the pages).

If you’re seeing a very split second, that’s rather normal and I’m surprised you haven’t seen it elsewhere on the web yet. ??

As a webfont, which is what’s required to display the font for anyone who doesn’t have it installed on their computer, the font will load before the styling (the font size in this case) is applied to it.

So, yes you may notice a very split second change in font size, definitely not a flicker though, that’s expected.

Surprisingly, it happens only with the Twenty Twenty theme, James! Particularly, the font size flickering. On each and every page.

I tested with other themes. They work fine.

Is there no way that I could remove that size flickering?

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

Is it actually flickering, like disappearing and coming back smaller, or is it just scaling down smaller in a fraction of a second?

    (@huzefamotiwala)

Scaling down smaller in a fraction of a second.

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

Yeah, that’s just normal operation for webfonts. I’m not sure why you haven’t see it elsewhere, but I encounter it often enough.

Thank you for clarifying, James! I was baffled to see them happening in only this theme. Hence, I raised the topic. ??
