Font Icons Are Blank/Squares Sitewide

Im not sure how long this has been going on, I know it happened on another site I was working on as well. I didnt think too much of it at first as it was just changing the jetpack icon to a square and was backend only so no harm.
Until I installed Ubermenu 3 and it has options to add font icons to the menu. however the choice of all the icons are now squares!
I am using chrome and safari on mac with same problem.
I have tried to add to htaccess:
<FilesMatch “\.(ttf|otf|eot|woff)$”>
<IfModule mod_headers.c>
Header set Access-Control-Allow-Origin “*”
</IfModule>
</FilesMatch>(as found during my googling but doesnt help)
Im starting to tear my hair out! Im using Headway Theme so editing css isnt as straight forward as I would like either, but this is all backend even if using another wordpress default theme, so I am sure its not that. I’m not too good on all the coding, so if you do answer please give me some kind of answer that a very early beginner could understand.
