Site is not currently live so I don’t have a link to share but a link for food menus is not showing up in the dashboard. If I go to appearance > customize > front page, there is a link for “food menu sections” that when clicked throws an error page: Invalid taxonomy.

Any help appreciated. I was just going to add menus after creating a couple of pages and realized I can’t!

Hi @ziggyjagger – I wasn’t able to replicate your issue on my test site. Could you please let me know:

    – What version of Canape
    – What version of Jetpack
    – What version of WordPress
    – What version of PHP

If you temporarily turn off all plugins except Jetpack, does the error go away?

    Thanks!

    Canape 1.0.5
    Jetpack 5.5
    Wordpress 4.8.3
    PHP 5.6

Turning off all plugins doesn’t change it.

Quick follow up… I have the same theme running on the same host (hostgator) and it’s still running fine. I just tried deleting the theme and re-installing, but I get the same behavior. Thanks again.

same issue for me. No food menu nor testimonials on dashboard

@simonezg – could you please start your own thread so we can troubleshoot directly? Are you sure Jetpack is active and the Testimonial and Portfolio modules active? ziggyjagger is getting a specific error – let’s discuss your situation one-on-one in your own thread:

@ziggyjagger Could you please clarify the exact steps to see this error?

You said “If I go to appearance > customize > front page, there is a link for “food menu sections” that when clicked throws an error page: Invalid taxonomy.”

Could you break that down for me into steps, specifically exactly where the link for “food menu sections” is appearing, and also provide a screenshot of the entire page, including the Customizer portion, when this error appears?

Here’s a guide on how to make a screenshot:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/

You can upload the screenshot – in a graphic format like JPG, PNG, or GIF – in your Media Library, and provide a link so I can see it, or upload it with a service like Imgur or Snaggy.

Sorry – I missed one step in there… Appearance > Customize > Theme Options > Front Page. You can see the links that produce the Invalid Taxonomy error in this screenshot: https://gator4038.temp.domains/~scottreedsr/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Screen-Shot-2017-11-09-at-3.52.26-PM.png

And I failed to note it, but I’m not seeing testimonials either.

Thanks for the extra info, @ziggyjagger!

Neither my colleague nor I have been able to replicate the issues so far.

Could you please verify a couple of Jetpack settings.

    1. In Jetpack > Settings, are both these toggles turned on?

    Jetpack Acme Co WordPress

    2. If you add this to the end of your domain: /wp-admin/admin.php?page=jetpack_modules

…do you see Custom Content Types active (highlighted in blue, with a vertical blue line to the left) like this?

    Acme Co WordPress

    Thanks!

Something tells me I’m the problem here! Jetpack is active, but since the domain is not yet live, I haven’t connected it to the temporary URL or IP. Is it OK to connect Jetpack to a temporary URL? Should I just update the nameservers and develop the thing “live”? I can’t get to the Jetpack settings and am not allowed access to the modules page url in the second part of your response.

    Thank you!

Hmm. If you can’t get to any Jetpack settings, something sounds amiss.

I would suggest making sure Jetpack is in development mode since you’re on a temporary URL.

You can do that by adding one temporary line in your wp-config file:

@simonezg – actually, since ziggyjagger later mentioned they also aren’t seeing testimonials, could you confirm that you’re seeing this same error message they are? “Invalid taxonomy”

    Thread Starter ziggyjagger

    (@ziggyjagger)

I’m sorry Kathryn… I was much better with this in the days where it wasn’t one click installs and I was forced to read a boatload of documentation, upload files, set permissions, etc!! Is that all I have to do is put that URL in my wp-config file? So di I then connect Jetpack to the temp URL? Do I need to be defining something? I put the URL at the end of the wp-config file but am not seeing anything different.

    Thanks again.

Nevermind – I clicked connect and it’s working. The food menus are working and the testimonials are there.

    Thank you so much!

    Moderator Kathryn Presner

    (@zoonini)

    Glad it’s all working!

And to clarify, you don’t need to connect to a WordPress.com account when you’re in development mode unless you need one of the features that requires a connection, such as Related Posts. Custom Content Types (i.e. food menus, testimonials) does not require a WordPress.com connection when you’re in development mode.
