Footer column widget regions not working

    Hi there,

    I’m in the process of building a new website with Storefront. I’ve added a widget to each of the four Footer Column widget regions, however none of these widgets are showing on the frontend.

    In the Theme Customizer, under Widgets, every page states ‘Your theme has 8 other widget areas, but this particular page doesn’t display them.’

    Initially I though it was a conflict with WPMU Dev’s Custom Sidebars plugin, however even after disabling it none of the footer widgets display. I’ve also tried disabling every plugin except for WooCommerce and still no footer widgets

    Do you have a link to your site?

    I’ve just tested it with Storefront and here it shows without problem when going to Customize > Widgets, there are 4 footer widget areas available:

    Hi Job, thank you for the response.

    I’ve figured out why it wasn’t working. A copy of footer.php was in my child theme directory. Even though it was identical to the footer.php in /storefront/, it was preventing the widget areas from working.

    Since I’m using the various theme hooks to make changes, I deleted the child footer.php and it’s now working correctly.

    I’ve never seen a child theme lose its widgetized areas before. Is this normal, or is there something else at play?

    Well, it’s probably some code in the custom PHP that was causing this problem. I don’t think there’s something else at play since it’s working fine when deleting that.
