    Can you provide any instructions for adding a footer.php file to the child theme?

    You can copy the footer.php file from your parent theme directly into your child theme’s folder, either via FTP or with a file manager provided by your hosting company (there’s no way to do this from within WordPress). Once you’ve copied the file over, it will override the parent theme, including any amendments you’re making there.
