Footer placement beneath container

  • Hello everyone. I am working with the default theme and attempting to create a customer footer which is placed beneath the container. Basically, I would like a footer div that stretches across the width of the page instead of being placed inside the container.

    Here is my blog and what I currently have, I wish to keep my links and navigation inside the footer placed where they are. But what I want is to have a background image at the bottom of the screen which stretches across the width of the page.
