    thanks for the help.

    Maybe I deleted more than I should?? the two last line before </script>

    You can re-install the theme to revert that change, and any changes you’ve made to the theme.

    To avoid losing changes when re-installing the theme, transfer your changes to a Child Theme.

    It’s important to keep the default themes, Twenty Ten and Twenty Eleven as they are for debugging.

    whatever you delete in footer.php (in a child theme of Twenty Eleven), make sure to keep:

    </div><!-- #main -->

    </div><!-- #page -->

    <?php wp_footer(); ?>

    </body>
    </html>

    the html tags are for keeping the site ‘validatable’ – https://validator.w3.org/
    and the <?php wp_footer(); ?> is a necessary hook for scripts, etc.

    it seems I have a lot to learn and to look up. Should try and do it. Thanks. (Andrew)

    Alchymyth: it looks as I have everything you mentioned.
    i installed jetpack; may this be the problem??

    thanks so much.

    Do you have a closing tag for that <script> tag? If you’ve deleted stuff and it’s left open you’ll probably have issues..

    I pasted the full footer.php. Is this
    </script> the closing tag?, have not got a clue about programming!!!
    Fell quite lost.

    thanks.
