• We live in the middle of nowhere and sites often take ages to load. I don’t mind when my site does this, but it seems to cause a problem with the footer widgets. The header and footer load first and the three widgets are all in line. Then the slideshow loads, the footer drops below that and sometimes when I scroll down it looks like this Dropped Footer Widget. A refresh sorts it out, but I want to stop it from happening. I’ve already added code to make the widgets 33% wide. Can anyone help please?

  • I tested on safari and it looks fine. Does take a while to load.

Thank you for checking. Because our internet is so very bad, I can’t tell if it’s my site or our connection at the time. Is there something I can do to speed it up? I don’t want to compromise image quality though…

If you have a lot of images in your homepage slideshow, or on any page, that will slowdown the loading of that page considerably. By a lot of images, I mean more than 3 or 4. Also, have you optimized your images to cut down on file size?

OK and thank you. I have optimized the images, but I clearly need to go back to the drawing board to cut down loading time. Maybe that will solve my original problem ??

Well I’ve done everything I can to speed up the loading. It’s much better, but every time I use CCleaner, open Firefox and load my site, the third widget footer drops below the other two (because it’s loading a bit slower than when I have a cache, presumably). I’ve tried replacing the third widget with something smaller (like Search), but it’s still happening. I’ve also tried all sorts of code to size the widgets with percentages, but they don’t seem to work at all. I’ve put the code within the theme’s CSS and also in Appearance, Edit CSS – nothing changes. (I turned off the new caching plugin before I started) ??

    Hi,

Your website prevents me from viewing code in the chrome or safari inspector. Without that ability, it’s pretty hard to tell what might cause the problem you are seeing.

It still displays correctly for me in chrome and safari.

Have you tried clearing your browser cache?

Yes I have. Is there any code that might work to make all three widgets narrower? Nothing I’ve found so far works. Do they have to add up to 100%?
