Just started using modern footnotes to replace footnotes plug-in. Using the custom option as you suggested works perfectly thank you. However I am wondering if there is a way to make my footnotes (high are really reference notes) links. All my items between the shortcode brackets are links but modern Footnotes doesn’t seem to recognize them and so clicking on an item in the list of the bottom of the page does nothing.

    Any help appreciated.

    Hi @earl_d ,

Are you referring to having links in the text for footnotes? That’s supported (see footnote 1 at the bottom of https://prismtechstudios.com/blog/2017/06/29/single-page-app-usability/ for an example). You’ll have to be sure the link is set up as a link in the WordPress editor, though. Modern Footnotes won’t auto-detect URLs and make them clickable links on its own.

    Best,
    Sean

For some reason, my first attempts with footnotes are not very successful. Eventually I realized I am getting the error message whenever I put not just text but a link in the footnote.

The error message says: Updating failed. The response is not a valid JSON response.

Once I remove the link and make it text only, it works again.

And now I can’t edit this page at all!!!

    The error message says:

    Type Error thrown

count (): Argument #1 ($value) must be of type countablearray, null given.

All other pages are working normally. Only the one where I tried to add a footnote.

    Not a happy camper!

Maybe I posted this on the wrong page?
