WP Engine got them back up and running quickly, but identified the problem as coming from the Footnotes plugin. It’s deactivated on the site linked below as well as on the sister site, sap-rood.org.

I am seeing the issues coming from footnotes plugin which looks to be causing issue for you on both sites

Hi Mark, and thanx for your reply. Unfortunately, it’s version 2.5.10 that broke the sites. I’m not a coder, so I can’t participate on github, but I’d really like to get your otherwise amazing plugin back up and running, because my client loves it.

@little-shiva according to my team it was 2.5.9d1 which broke the plugin. 2.5.10 is equal to 2.5.8.
You can manually deploy and download https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/footnotes.2.5.8.zip if you want and check back for updates if 2.5.10 doesn’t work for you.

If I delete the existing plugin and upload 2.5.8, will I lose all footnotes created with the original install?

@little-shiva no, you won’t. The footnotes are saved in your posts and have nothing to do with the footnotes plugin being installed or not. You can safely remove footnotes from your /wp-plugins folder and upload the content of the downloaded .zip file. Even your footnotes settings will remain in place that way.
