footnotes don′t show after update to 2.2.6

    hi, i used footnotes for some months and love it. Today it ceased to show any footnotes directly after automated update to 2.2.6. I use latest astra pro on wp 5.6. All footnotes are shown as “1” on page, clicking on “1” does not show content, and the footnotes at the end of the page disappeared. ??

    update: that was fast!!! After your update to 2.2.8 it works fine! Merry christmas

    I get the following error: Warning: preg_replace(): Compilation failed: lookbehind assertion is not fixed length at offset 0 in /home/www/wp-content/plugins/footnotes/class/task.php on line 674

    My WordPress version is 5.6 with PHP 8.0.

    Please help. Thank you!

    Thank you for reporting this. It is fixed in current 2.2.8.

    I never suspected that a lookbehind cannot have variable length. The bug had been reported by @rjl20 and @spaceling in https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/two-links-now-breaks-footnotes-with-blogtext/ and the fix was based on these reports, but I’ve just added credit in changelog and file.

    When I accessed this page from Gmail, the topic was marked as resolved. Thank you @friedrichnorth, see your update.

    For some reason the footnotes update didn’t show up until about an hour ago.
