• Hi – Is there a way to force the language used in generating the invoice/packing slip?

We have Japanese customers. If the store admin generating the packing slip has English as their default language setting it overrides things like the date format and the order of the first and last name. Currently we are working around it by just manually changing the language temporarily then changing back, or having someone who is already set to Japanese to print the packing slip but I’m thinking there might be a filter or something to set this permanently.

Great plugin btw. Plugins like this are what make WordPress great.

Hi! Unfortunately language switching is quite complex in WordPress and it’s not as simple as using a filter ??
However, depending on what you are using to create these Japanese orders in the first place, we may have other solutions for you. Our Professional extension offers support for WPML and Polylang.
Are you using either of those or something else entirely?

    Let me know!

Hi Ewout – thanks for the quick response.

Currently we set the site to “Japanese” in regular WordPress general settings. However in the back end, some people (eg me) like to view everything in English, and so under my profile settings I manually set it to English. Previously I needed a plugin for this functionality but it’s in WordPress core now I think.

I override a few translation strings with Loco Translate, but not using anything like WPML or Polylang. If they offer a solution I could have a look at them but it seems like adding a lot of extra complexity to solve a problem we are currently working around.

Hi! I see, yes, it certainly sounds like WPML or Polylang would be overkill for what you want. I’m afraid I don’t have a simple solution for this though – as I said, overloading/forcing the site language only for specific parts only (i.e. ignoring your profile language setting for PDF invoices) is not simple.

I’m sorry I can’t help you with this!
