    Hi.

I’ve just realised that the ‘Error Message’ that we specify in the ‘Message Settings’ section for the form does not display when when there are validation errors in the submission of the form.

I’ve tested it on your demo of the form here and the behavior is exactly the same.

To replicate – submit the demo form without filling in a few fields. We are presented with the validation errors for each field that has not been filled in, but we are not presented with the error message below the submission button.

This is a problem for us because we have a very long form that requires scrolling to complete (we can’t change that). The website user won’t necessarily see the validation errors because all form fields are not on the screen when the submit button has been clicked.

My client believes they are missing important emails as a result of this – the website user doesn’t see the error message below the submit button and therefore thinks the form has been submitted correctly, when in actual fact there are validation errors.

To remedy this could you please ensure that the ‘Error Message’ that we specify in the ‘Message Settings’ section of the form settings does display below the submit button when there are validation errors?

This is generally the convention we see with forms across the web.

    Many thanks.

    Hi @britner

Have there been any developments with this? My client is quite upset about it and is pushing me quite hard to get the problem resolved asap.

    Thanks @britner, that’s really appreciated.

How do I stop the page from scrolling upwards when there are validation errors? We have a very long form and the new error message that appears below the submit button is not immediately visible due to the page scrolling up. I’m happy to amend plugin files to achieve this for the moment if necessary.

Also, would it be possible to use the error message we have established in the form settings? My client would like the error message you have hard coded in, “Please fix the errors to proceed”, to explain a little better why the form has not submitted. I’ve amended the string in the necessary plugin file to achieve this for the moment.

One other thing, if there are multiple submission attempts with validation errors the new error message repeats itself. I’ve put through three attempts with validation errors and I now have three exact copies of the error message below the submit button.

I don’t know what you mean by this? can you send a link? The form doesn’t do any scrolling.

Form submit errors and validation errors are two different messages, you can use saywhat plugin if you need to change the validation error message: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/say-what/

Hmm yeah, they won’t clear until you have a success. I’ll look at adding a clear for that.
