form no longer sends since recent recaptcha update

Where can we see the website?

I have the same problem. Site is https://thecove.us/band-booking/ I have verified that the theme calls wp_footer immediately before the </body> tag.

I am using WP 4.9.9, Contact form 7 5.1.1, Espresso theme 2.1 (https://themeforest.net/item/espresso-a-wordpress-theme-for-restaurants/6333987)

Stats on Recaptcha 3 are ok. (vast majority are .9) The only messages that have gotten through since this change came from me when I was testing the form.

I had to roll back to 5.0.5, because really need this form working.

Same deal for me as well, recaptcha v3 has meant forms no longer send.

I am now constantly getting the “Sender’s message failed to send” error.

How often does that happen? 100%? Or some can come through?

That error happens almost every time. If I come back to the form hours later without a reload it looks to give the “Submission was referred to as spam” error but otherwise my last 10 consecutive attempts all gave the “Sender’s message failed to send” error.

Can you explain more clearly? Do you mean an orange border error by “Submission was referred to as spam” and a red border error by “Sender’s message failed to send” respectively? I’m asking this because Contact Form 7 assigns the same message to the both cases of error by default.

I don’t see any reCAPTCHA-related errors in the front-end console of the browser. Do you mean back-end PHP error logs? If so, what messages do you see?

The borders are always the same color. Grey.

OK. That explains the situation clearly. First, reCAPTCHA seems to be working correctly. Second, you are getting red border (in the default theme) error response constantly. Seeing a red border error means no spammy attempt has been detected but the plugin has failed to send mail for unknown reasons.

These FAQ topics cover the red border issues:

• After submitting the form, I get an error message stating “There was an error trying to send your message.” What is wrong?
• I get an error message with a red border. So, how can I solve this?

So those are basically saying a mail server issue.

Any reason why that would happen after the recent updates?

I’ll contact my hosting to have them look at the mail logs.

Your hosting will be able to help in some way. I doubt the issue is related to the recent plugin update.

It looks like it was an issue with the mail server.

My settings for the WP Mail SMTP plugin seem to have been reset around the same time as the plugin update. After updating the SMTP credentials the form is sending again.
