Form Resets on Page Load

  • I’ve extended CF7 to automatically save our user’s form data as they type it, and if they come back to the page it automatically loads it for them. Unfortunately, since the update to 5.4, I can see that the CF7 script is resetting the form after I’ve already filled it with the user’s pre-filled info.

    I’m sure I’m not the only person this has caused a headache for. Anyone who’s implementing similar extensions or using a plugin like https://codecanyon.net/item/contact-form-7-auto-save-progress/22449041
    is probably having the same issue now.

    Can you suggest a solution? Or add a filter to disable the form reset on page load? (As a sidenote, it would be great if you optionally could disable the form reset after submission. From a google search, I can see I’m not the only one who wants this capability)

    Noting that I was able to fix this issue with the following code in the meantime, but I don’t love this solution because it could break in the future if CF7 ever makes use of other important localized script data:

    add_action('wpcf7_enqueue_scripts', 'prefix_fix_form_reset');

function prefix_fix_form_reset() {
    $wpcf7 = array();
    wp_localize_script( 'contact-form-7', 'wpcf7', $wpcf7 );
}

    You can add this to functions.php
