• Hello,

The Mailchimp signup form has stopped working on a site I’ve been working on.

When you try and submit a form, a 500 (Internal Server Error) is created. If I preview the response this error creates with a web inspector, I get a page with the words: “Cheatin’ huh?”.

What is happening here and how can it be fixed?

One thought I had was that there was no API key associated with the plugin – I wasn’t the one to set this plugin – and so I’ve created one. However, I can’t see anywhere in the admin section where I can enter (or modify the API key).

I’m using the latest version of the plugin: 1.4.1

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Hey negatron44,

Thanks for swinging by the support forum. In order for us to troubleshoot this further, we’ll need to gather a bit more information. If you can reply back with a link to the page where the form is set up, we’ll be happy to dig into this further. Additionally, if you can walk us through the steps taken to set up the form, that should help us get a clearer picture of what’s going on.

We look forward to hearing back!

    Hi Gunter,

    Thanks for your reply.

    Here’s the website: https://www.hwns.org.uk/

The form is in the top right.

Unfortunately it wasn’t me who originally developed the site and added the form so I don’t really know the steps that were taken. But I don’t think an API was originally added. but the form did used to work a couple of months ago…

    Thanks for you help!

    Hey negatron44!

Thanks for getting back to us with that information.

I went ahead and performed a test signup, and I actually encountered a similar error message. Might we have the version of WordPress you’d be running? Additionally, to rule out potential conflicts with other plugins, can you try disabling any other installed plugins, one-by-one, and see if that improves things? What you’re encountering sounds similar to this previous thread:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/wp-supercache-vs-mailchimp?replies=2

That user found that the conflict seemed to be related to their use of the WP Super Cache plugin, so that might be a good place to start, if you have it installed.

Let us know how that goes, and we can proceed from there.
