Format the start date to display on Revolution Slider

Hi, I have a post-based Revolution Slider that displays events (via events manager obviously).

I’m trying to output the date, which I managed to do {{meta:_event_start_date}} but it displays as yyyy-mm-dd which is not really readable, I would like to display it as dd month yyyy.

I know that the team of The Events Calendar managed to respond to the same problem for their plugin here (https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/integrating-events-calendar-slider-revolution-essential-grid/).

I was wondering if this is something that’s possible with Events Manager !
