Formatting Text

Hi,
This has probably been answered somewhere, but I have searched for awhile. Basically, I want to know how to write a post in the visual view without the test running over into my sidebar.

Also, if I write the post in Microsoft Word, is there a way to format the text or the paragraph to a certain size, so that when I post it in HTML, I can be assured that it’s just the right size to fit into the space that’s available on my page without running over off the page or into my sidebar.
