Forminator causing Critical Error on website

    After updating the Forminator Plugin on this site because I got a notice that there was a security issue with a previous version, my site went down. It said it had a critical error:

    Hi @meiraleo,

    I am sorry to know that you are experiencing this issue.

    Can you please try to manually re-install the plugin and check if that helps with resolving the issue? Please find how to manually install a plugin here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/managing-plugins/#manual-upload-via-wordpress-admin

    If the issue still persists, can you please try a complete plugin conflict test and see if a plugin is conflicting and causing the issue?

    Nope still didn’t work. I uploaded the plugin via SFTP and reactivated it and it’s still breaking my site when I activate it.

    Can you please reply sooner? We’re not able to collect contacts from our website until this is resolved which is a major problem. If it can’t be resolved quickly we need to find another solution. Please respond ASAP. Thank you.

    I’ve checked the issue you’ve experienced further and it looks like there may be a possible issue related to MailChimp itself which causes Forminator to throw the error in response to that. I will bring the issue to the attention of our Forminator team to provide additional checks for this edge case.

    In the meantime, we suggest to roll back Forminator to the previous working version – you can do that at the bottom of this page: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/forminator/advanced/

    The XSS vulnerability is not an external one – it only affects cases when a logged in privileged user (admin) adds external scripts to a form’s fields, so it may actually not affect your site at all and should be safe to do in the majority of cases.

    Hi Patrick,

    I’m glad to know that this is still on your radar. Unfortunately, I just tried to update the site to 1.15.7 and it still gave me the same critical error and I had to reinstall an older version of Forminator. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to resolve this.

    Hello @meiraleo ,

    I’m very sorry about the delay on our side. It looks like this issue still occurs from time to time on some websites in the current version.

    However, it looks like it goes away when the new MailChimp API key is generated and used in Forminator. It should stop the error.
    We have members reporting that they would need to first delete old APIs and then generated a new one and use it in Forminator.
