Have scoured the Forum docs – can’t find anything about searching.

Have been using WP for several weeks so am still a ‘newbie’ at WP – have been a pgmr for >30 years but WP seems to be in a class of its own.

Yes, I see that can search by themes but that doesn’t help much – that narrows it down to several hundred thousand threads.

And when I do find a promising search argument, can only look at 10 pages of threads … and then if choose to read a thread on page 8, when want to continue I’m taken back to page 1. After 10 pages the world of WP seems to end. Very frustrating.

I shudder when there is a problem and have to resort to the forum.

    Any help is appreciated.

Are you talking about these forums here?

If so, the search box up at the top right searches both the forums and documentation.

To get a more specific search, use the site: modifier at any major search engine. For example:

    site:www.ads-software.com/support/ something to search for

    Thanks for responding James.

    Yes, the WP forums
Yes, I’ve used the search box at the upper right
    yes, I’ve used site:www.ads-software.com/support/”search arg”

I guess it is what it is … many search results and a matter of luck finding the right one.

Edit: as a further test,I tried searching for wprap posts (my posts)
    site:www.ads-software.com/support/wprap … result – no hits
    site:www.ads-software.com/support/forum/wprap … result – no hits
    site:www.ads-software.com/support/forums/wprap … result – no hits
but when I search in WP.org, get 28 hits … 3 pages worth – but when try to access 2nd page, the search goes to page 1 of the results for search arg “wrap”. Guess I picked the wrong username when I signed up (my initials are RAP so just innocently added WP)
    {ps tried search arg “wprap -wrap” … w/o “s – no joy)

Well, of course those returned no hits. https://www.ads-software.com/support/wprap and such aren’t real URLs.

    Try this instead:

    site:www.ads-software.com/support/profile/wprap [search terms]

    or:

    site:www.ads-software.com/support/ wprap [other search terms]

To clarify, the site: modifier works as such:

site:[URL you want to search in] [search terms]

    Thread Starter WPrap

    (@wprap)

Yes James – all searches were done using site:www.ads-software.com/support/…

site:www.ads-software.com/support/ wprap works – Thank you
    but
site:www.ads-software.com/support/wprap doesn’t – oh, I see – w/o the blank it becomes part of the URL and thus invalid

    Sorry

Is the a list of the names used for WP forums (e.g. for the Animate It! ‘sub-forum’ is the name /animate-it or animate it or animate it! ??)

using the site: gets around the issues with the WP Forum inconsistencies. THANK YOU

    Done

Plugin thread URLs aren’t unique, so you’d just have to treat its name like a keyword.

    OK that’s what I’ve been doing – I’ll continue – thanks
