    Hi Enrico,

I currently have the problem on a customer page that I am redirected to the start page after duplicating an element.

The duplicated element still appears in the BackEnd, but the redirection to the start page is quite annoying.

When I am redirected to the start page, the following link is in the URL bar: https://www.domain.de/?cloned=1&ids=8168

Is this a known problem? If so, how can I solve it?

I would be happy to create an administrative account for you, if necessary, so that you can take a look at the problem live.

    Many thanks & best regards,
    Manuel

    Hi @manuelschoettle

We’re sorry to hear you’re having trouble with the Duplicate Post plugin.

Could you confirm if you are using the latest version of WordPress 5.7.2, Yoast Duplicate Post 4.1.2, and the latest versions of the rest of your plugins and themes?

We understand you have an issue where you’ve used the ‘clone’ feature on a certain page, and the cloned page results in a redirection to the homepage, is this correct? Is this a default page or is this a custom post type?

Would it be possible for you to provide us with a list of steps and the required plugins/themes on how to reproduce this issue?

    Yes, this is correct.

Both a default page and a custom post type.

Duplicate Post is up to date. WordPress will be updated tomorrow. Otherwise, all website components are on the latest version.

But I don’t think this is related to the WordPress update. Last week I noticed the error and WordPress was on the latest version.

Would it be possible for you to provide us with a list of steps and the required plugins/themes on how to reproduce this issue?

    Hi,

When you ‘clone’ a default page, it should create a new draft in the page overview and add a /-2/ to the slug. You can then make some changes to the permalink as well as the content itself. Then, after making the changes, when you publish that cloned page, and view it from the frontend, it redirects to the homepage, and it has the added “?cloned=1&ids=8168” in the URL in the front-end, correct?

Or is the process to reproduce it something else (such as just previewing the cloned page before it is published)?

We tried it on a test site with a default set-up (WP Twenty Twenty theme and only Yoast Duplicate Post v4.1.2 as the plugin enabled) and were unable to reproduce the issue.

Would it be possible for you to perform a conflict check using the Health Check plugin to rule out any plugin or theme conflicts? You can refer to the guide here — https://yoast.com/help/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts/ (please activate Yoast Duplicate Post instead of Yoast SEO)

No, I cannot edit the duplicated element directly because I am redirected to the start page immediately after clicking on “Duplicate”.

I have recorded a short video for this purpose. Maybe this will clarify things ??

Yes, I tested it with the said plugin in which I disabled all components except the “Yoast Duplicate Post” plugin. Unfortunately, I also have the problem here that I am redirected to the start page after clicking on “Duplicate”.

    Hi @manuelschoettle,
from what I can see in the video, the redirection to the homepage happens also when you trash the created draft, doesn’t it?

Does this happen only for drafts what you created with the plugin, or if you trash any post?
Does this happen if you deactivate Yoast Duplicate Post?

Let us know! This should help us in isolating the problem.

    Hi @lopo,

I deactivated the plugin “Yoast Duplicate Post” once and deleted a page. I am still redirected to the start page.

So does that mean it has nothing to do with your plugin…?

    Hi @manuelschoettle,
I would think so, it seems that there is something that’s changing the destination URLs of the WordPress redirect functions that Yoast Duplicate Post uses (as well as WordPress itself when e.g. a post is moved to the thrash…)

You said that all other plugins have been disabled, right? That would suggest that it could be the theme… can you try to switch to a standard WordPress theme like Twenty Twenty One? (better create a backup copy of your site first if you can!)

I have a similar issue but only for editors the admin login worked fine.
