    Hi,

I have a problem with the plugin. Sometimes I see this error (Notice: fread(): Read of 8192 bytes failed with errno=116 Stale file handle in /wp-content/plugins/wordfence/vendor/wordfence/wf-waf/src/lib/storage/file.php on line 618) but can’t figure out why.

    Can you pleas help me?

    Thanks

    Hi @boghi,

    Thank you for reaching out.

The error looks like it may be caused by a file-locking issue. Please confirm that permissions are set to 755 for the WordPress site’s directories – this includes the wflogs folder and the process owner to www-data if needed for your setup.

If the above settings are in place, I would recommend switching to MySQLi storage engine so  that sites can store firewall data in the MySQL database instead of using files in “wp-content/wflogs/”.

You can find the instructions on the link below:

    https://www.wordfence.com/help/firewall/mysqli-storage-engine/

Let me know in case the issue still persists.

    Thanks,

    Janet.

    Hi @wfjanet,

the hosting provider told me that the permissions on the wp-content folder are set to 775 and the process owner is www-data.

Instead of switching to MySQLi storage engine, what could we do to avoid this error in future?

    Thanks

    Hi @boghi,

I’d like to take a look at your diagnostic report, please.

Navigate to Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostic page and then click the “Export” button. Send the txt file to [email protected]. Add your forum username in the subject and respond here once done.

    Thanks,

    Janet

    Hi @boghi,

    Sorry for the delayed response.

From the diagnostic report, I noticed a few files have been removed from the /wflogs folder. I also noticed a very large debug.log file. You may need to download a copy of that and delete it from the server.

I recommend trying a complete reinstall. First, if you’d like to Export some of your settings you can do so by going to Wordfence > Tools > Import/Export Options and using the Export Wordfence Options button. That will export the options mentioned here.

After that, go back to the Plugins area and deactivate Wordfence. Use the option to “Delete all Wordfence tables and data“.

If the fresh reinstall doesn’t work, it would be best to switch to MySQLi storage engine.

Let me know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Janet.
