• HI there,

Before the last update ( Pixel size ) which is also really nice,
Width and Height was not required, so that I had chance for free cropping, what was perfect for me, know it seems its gone, so I can’t crop free ? (if possible I would love to have this option back on next updates )

Second how about I update the plug-in and I don’t have set Width and Height which are required know, will it make any problem from image I haven’t set Width and Height.

    Thank you,

Hey, is this feature something you absolutely need? Because cropping without aspect ratio was never an intended feature of this plugin. You were always meant to fill in the fields for width and height so this functionality was more of a bug than a feature.

If you just want to crop images you could always use the built-in WordPress image cropper.

If this is a bug you absolutely rely on I think I could add a filter you can use to disable required field for the field.

I actually have the same problem. I’m having to save the option to use the image crop field instead of the standard image because it was no longer showing the icon to crop. I’m noticing when I put in a ratio or pixel size all starts working again so I think this update may have broken the plugin for some of us. I too was using the cropping functions of this plugin to “free crop” as the other user called it as well as force ratio crop. The option to do either is universal. For me the built-in crop tool is crap and doesn’t work.

I can’t see why a ratio or pixel size should be required as that makes this tool unusable to everyone else that doesn’t require that. Making updates for people on the fly is awesome and I commend you on that, however, if it breaks the plugin for others that have been using it, that doesn’t seem as awesome. Any chance of making those fields not required?

Hey, I have decided that the free cropping functionality will be added back in the next version since there are at least 2 people (now 3) who used this functionality.

There is an open PR for this on GitHub that I need to look over https://github.com/joppuyo/acf-image-aspect-ratio-crop/pull/24 .

Apologies for any issues that have been caused, I just didn’t anticipate that people were using this plugin in a way that I had not intended but since this is a popular request I will add the functionality back.

@joppuyo , I will really happy if we have free cropping back !

    Thanks,

    Hey @joppuyo

Sorry I never got back to you on the Imgick problem, thanks for your time on that. Didn’t quite find away round the issue in the end but it was totally unrelated to your plugin anyway.

I am too also massively in favour of the free cropping please.

I think your plugin is best crop plugin for acf. Mainly because the UI/UX is slick, the rule of thirds guides are so sweet, and you return the [original_image] array as well as the new cropped sizes array.

I started using your plugin on version 3.1.12 and by chance you didn’t actually force users to set an aspect ratio sizes. You could leave the fields empty and you could free crop.

I used this free cropping to my advantage because my friend’s site uses really bad images from his dealers websites. All the images have white backgrounds. Some of his dealers have good images but my friend just needs a fast and easy free crop function rather than the clunky native cropping method. I basically use CSS on the site front-end to center the free cropped image inside a square white thumbnail.

When I updated to version 3.2.0, the free cropping still worked but when I tried to edit the field, it actually throws a JS error in the admin and cant save the field. Probably because the original saved data didn’t match the new format. I could only clear the error and save the field if I added a ratio or pixel size. This in turn meant we’ve lost the original free cropping functionality.

I had to downgrade back to 3.1.12 just so I could continue to use free cropping.

This also caused strange issue after downgrading, that it would only return an image id unless you saved the post again, which then it returns the expected array, lucky I only 60 products to be re-updated.

Looking forward to you bringing back free crop in the next update. Maybe have it as drop down option.

    Many Thanks

    Hey everyone,

Free crop has been added back in the latest version of the plugin. You can enable it in the ACF options by changing the crop type to free crop.

Please test it out and let me know if it works for you.

@joppuyo sorry I never got back to you… again.. I got caught up in the mellay of projects. This worked a beaut, a massive thank you. This is 100% the go to crop plugin for ACF. Great work dude!????????????
