    Hi ikiu91,

This isn’t so…. UD will *advise* you if it detects that you are restoring a site on a different *URL* (not *server*) than before. But, it does nothing to stop you going ahead and pressing the “Restore” button if you want to, if you are confident that the URL change will not matter (e.g. you’re changing from a WP site hosted at https://www.example.com to one hosted at https://example.com).

There is a support forum available here, if you have a problem – https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/updraftplus – it’s much better to post there, and ask for help, rather than posting untrue things in reviews in anger – that doesn’t help either you, me or other users.

    Best wishes,
    David

P.S. Question for forum moderators – is it allowed to post that a plugin is “fake” ? I can understand something like “I’m frustrated”, even “I’m really angry and hate you all!!!”…. but to me, saying a plugin is “fake” seems to cross a line of acceptable discourse.

since 3 days i try to find a solution, because when i click on restore button, nothing happens, i ve look your forum for pay user, but i don’t find a solution. I dont speak a good english, and i don’t find any mail adress to ask a question, but the bad story is : i cant restore my blog on my new server, because when i click restore nothing happens, i made ftp backup, and i can’t use it, so yes, i’m angry.

but If it is a mistake on my part, I would change my appreciation

i don’t want to say your plug-in is fake i wanted to say “faux gratuit” in french, it’s a google translate

Question for forum moderators – is it allowed to post that a plugin is “fake” ?

We have to remember that reviews come from the users, not from what we want the users to say. To this reviewer, it was “fake,” mostly because they saw the notice suggesting a paid option and probably just stopped there.

The review itself is not accurate to the general state of things, but it is accurate to the reviewer. The reviewer had a 1-star experience and felt the plugin was “fake.”

Restoring a backup is a highly emotional process, so I can understand how anyone going through the process would be upset at the mere suggestion of money (even though we all rationally know that offering paid services is how you pay the bills and keep the core plugin free).

The right way to handle these is to reply as you have done, explaining that the conclusion of the review simply is not true. You might also want to re-visit that notice, maybe make it even clearer to avoid this kind of conclusion, but it could also be perfect and it’s just not possible to please all of the people all of the time.

The reviewer can change their rating at any time, and if they don’t, you have plenty of 5-star reviews to back you up. ??

UpdraftPlus backups are standard zip + SQL files. So, if you have trouble restoring from the dashboard, then you can just:
    1) Unzip the zip files and
    2) Run the SQL through any other SQL tool you have in your web hosting (e.g. phpMyAdmin).

for the moderator, my English is poor, i’m french and use google translator, I did not mean that the plug in is “false” just that the free version is not all she said, I understood backup and restore free, paying migration . I want to restore, and I can not with the free version. The plug in is not false, but the free is not all what he said because I was unable to restore …

@ Moderator, you can change the terms “free fake” if it does not match what I meant

    (@macmanx)

As requested, I changed the title to “not entirely free,” I think that’s more accurate to the point you’re trying to get across. Thanks! ??

ikiu91 the plugin is free if you use it yourself. If you want someone else to do it for you of course it’s going to cost money.

to restore backup all you need to do is

    1. restore all files using the .zip file.

    2. Create a database in mysql(or use the existing database but dump all the data), edit the config.php in your root directory to include the database name, user, password if you are using a different database to the one previously configured.

    3. import the .sql file to the database.

it’s 3 things, if you can’t figure it out there’s hundreds of documents online that will help you…. for free.

you can use the restore function. that’s how I moved to a new host. it worked perfectly, not a single issue.
