Free Shipping available despite criteria not being met

  • Hi,
    a few days ago I wrote about having issues to exclude virtual products from the total amount to qualify for free shipping but I have now discovered that the free shipping options is always showing and can be used, despite the mininum order amount not being reached, regardless of the products or amount. I don’t know since when this is happening but I do know that it wasn’t always like that and the option only appeared after the criteria was met.

    I have chosen to only offer free shipping with minimum order amount being 100€, I double checked the shipping zones and options set, turned them on and off, cleared the cache, etc. Tried this multiple times on desktop and mobile.
    I am not using a separate shipping plugin and all other plugins, WP, Woo, etc are up to date, I can find no error logs.
    I have switched my theme to Storefront to check if it the issue was theme-related but it still exists there as well.
    Also enabled WP_DEBUG but no error were displayed.

    As the issue with free shipping appearing when not eligible persists, despite the settings being correct, the next step is to troubleshoot for potential plugin conflicts. With multiple active plugins, there is a possibility that one of them may be interfering with WooCommerce’s shipping calculations.

    I would recommend temporarily deactivating all non-WooCommerce plugins, particularly those related to shipping and promotions (like ‘WooCommerce POS’ or ‘Product Blocks for WooCommerce’). After each deactivation, check to see if the issue with free shipping has been resolved on the checkout page. If it has, reactivate the plugins one by one to pinpoint the conflict.

    I highly suggest securing a backup of your site before doing this or to consider setting up a staging site (if possible), so you can troubleshoot without affecting your customers.

    many thanks for your reply.
    What would be the next step is disabling plugins one by one doesn’t change anything?
    I went through each one (except woo of course), disabled it, cleared the cache and my browser history/cookies each time and the free shipping option is still available. I also tried different products, different amounts but despite the free shipping amount being set at 100€ any order below can still see and select this option.

    I understand the issue persists even after conflict testing.

    Could you share screenshots of the Shipping Methods you have set up?
    I want to review how are they configured.

    If conflict testing on the live site does not solve the issue, I suggest creating a staging site and disabling all the plugins except WooCommerce. Then, switch to a default theme like Twenty Twenty-Four.

    Having a staging site will allow us to inspect the site from our end.
    You may use a 3rd party plugin like WP Staging to create a staging site.

    I noticed there is a comma used as a decimal separator in the shipping cost.
    Could you try replacing it with a dot “.” and check if that resolves the issue?

    Hi,
    Thanks for you reply.
    I had tried that before, also only entered 100 but as soon as it is saved it automatically changes to 100,00 – my shop is in Europe and set up that way.
    But I will keep looking and once I find the issue I will report back.

    I’ve seen that many users have encountered the same issue, where the free shipping method appears even though the minimum limit hasn’t been reached. All of them were able to resolve the issue by adding the minimum amount without any commas (“,”) or dots (“.”).

    Since you mentioned that you added the amount as 100, just to confirm, has your issue been resolved by entering the minimum amount as 100 (without a comma or dot)? The amount will indeed revert to 100,00 after saving the changes, but sometimes using a comma or dot can cause this issue.
