Free updates?

    My dashboard is showing I have version 1.6.2, and that there’s an upgrade available to 1.6.3. But it won’t let me complete the upgrade unless I have a paid membership.

    Is this a free version, or is there fine print that I’ve missed?

    I see a similar problem on this thread: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/unable-to-update-forminator-plugin/. Removing the WPMU DEV Dashboard, as suggested there, didn’t solve the problem.

    Hope you are doing well!

    Looks like at some point a Forminator version was installed on your site via the WPMU DEV Dashboard plugin. Please backup your site just in case, remove the premium Forminator plugin and install it again from Plugins > Add New, by searching for Forminator.

    Next updates from www.ads-software.com should go smoothly.

    Or you can manually install the www.ads-software.com version of a plugin. Please download the plugin from here, connect to your site’s files via FTP and upload the plugin to ../wp-content/plugin/ folder by replacing the current forminator folder.

    I had installed it from the regular Plugins>Add New panel. But to be sure, I de-activated WPMU DEV Dashboard, removed Forminator, then went to reinstall it via Plugins>Add New. But the WordPress repository only shows version 1.6.2.

    So I installed it any, but still see the “Update Available” message on my plugins screen, along with the message that auto-updating isn’t available for this plugin.

    I had also installed it last week on another site, hosted on another server, on which never had WPMU DEV Dashboard installed. That shows version 1.6.2, but with no Update Available notice at all.

    Hope all is well!

    The version 1.6.2 is the latest one at this moment that was released on the www.ads-software.com . If at some point the WPMU DEV Dashboard was installed and activated, the Forminator plugin could have been updated via the WPMU DEV Dashboard. The version 1.6.3 is released on our premium.wpmudev.org site, this is why the Update notification is shown on your site.

    The version 1.6.3 will be released soon on the www.ads-software.com as well. Please keep an eye on an update.

    1.6.3 had a lot of fixes in the changelog. I’m not sure why there’s a delay in releases.

    Most freemium plugins have the same updates, it’s just that premium features get added via license key. But, I’ve never seen a release delay before. What if there’s some fatal error that gets fixed in the “pro” version and isn’t on the free one. Will free users have to take their chances until it gets updated eventually?

    In cases of fatal errors, or security updates we do not postpone releases for wp.org version.
