After updating to 6.0.4 I now have an admin notice to configure the settings (across the entire admin, that I can’t dismiss), and it’s asking for a license key in the free version?

  • I have exactly the same question as Brian Hogg.
After updating to 6.0.4, I now have an admin notice asking for a license key in the free version?

What exactly do we have to do if we want to go on with the free version? Thanks!

Looks like the latest version got rid of the manual entry of the UX code, so you need to do the authentication with Google to get rid of the notice.

Still confused by the new license key box though, if it downloads and installs premium add-ons or activates pro-only code when entered (which I believe is against the wp.org guidelines)

The license key box is used by users who previously used the eCommerce addon along side of our lite version. This setup was supported until 5.5.4, and the way that it gets updates is through the license key, similar to how it is done in Easy Digital Downloads, Yoast, etc. A license key box has always existed in the free version of the product, except previously it was hidden under an extensions/addons tab, the result of which is many people did not enter in their license key to get updates. It does not turn on any extra features or allow for the download of new addons.

You can still manually enter in the UA code, by clicking on the link to do so directly underneath the Google Authentication button. We also now have a pair of PHP constants as well as a filter which can also be used as well.

The notice in question asks you to configure your Google settings and goes away automatically whenever either authentication with Google is done or when a manual UA code is entered via the constant, filter or settings panel.

    OK, thanks for the information!

    Likewise thanks for the info!

The issue may be that it didn’t remember my previously entered UX code, which I’d already added prior to updating to 6.x. Might avoid some confusion if it was remembered during the upgrade?

It shouldn’t have lost it as they’re supposed to be carried through with the upgrade routine. The only two reasons that come to mind as to why they wouldn’t is if MonsterInsights determined the previously entered UA was of an invalid format or if when using oAuth the access token was expired.

    Hey Chris,

It was definitely a valid UA code (was working fine before the update), and I hadn’t auth’ed with Google so there shouldn’t have been an access token (which perhaps the update route saw and ignored the manual UA code?)

It’s possible it just missed it. I’m not sure why it would’ve done that, but I’ve been testing the routine all night and haven’t gotten it to fail yet. If I can find a way to get it to fail to transfer we can push an update for it.

We’ve identified the issue that caused the migration to fail, but unfortunately we will not be able to restore this for sites that have already completed the update.

Glad you were able to find it!

    I’m confused.

I too have a admin notice [that can’t be dismissed ?? ] that says:

Your license key for MonsterInsights is invalid. The key no longer exists or the user associated with the key has been deleted. Please use a different key to continue receiving automatic updates.

Ok, it MonsterInsights Pro is not installed, and I’m not sure if it ever was.

This has nothing to do with be GA UA code. That was working… I disconnect and reconnected and it didn’t change that notice. I’m still seeing it everywhere.

That nag shouldn’t show unless Pro is installed and active…

I’m not seeing this on a brand new install but yeah, if the Pro version is not installed/activated, that license message should never show regardless of whether the Pro version was installed before.
