I’ve used the Free version of AIO Backups on and off over the years, but I never had to migrate a site with it. Till now.

So let me get this straight: For a file under 2GB, (allowed for Free) the Import function doesn’t work because it gets stuck before getting started.

When I tried the workaround method, as mentioned online, by uploading a backup to the server and then from the dashboard to click Restore, I get a message that:

“Restore” functionality is available in a paid extension.
You could also download the backup and then use “Import from file”.

Why don’t you tell people up front that there is no way to restore or import using the free version?

Why do you let people waste time trying to make the free version actually do something?

What – if anything – am I missing here?

    Frustrated.
    Mari

    Hi Mari,

I am sorry to hear that you run into an issue with your site transfer.
The plugin itself does not have any limits. Hosting providers, on the other hand, apply many limits.
These limits can make it impossible to Export a site or to Import a site.
Sometimes, you might be able to import your site but not able to export or vice versa.
Some users like yourself hit the upload size limit. I’ve written an article here that describes how to increase this limit: https://help.servmask.com/2018/10/27/how-to-increase-maximum-upload-file-size-in-wordpress/
Other times, there limits on the size of the files, the number of reads or writes to the storage, the time it takes to download or upload a file. When I identify a common issue I write an article about it.
There is also a list of supported and unsupported hosting providers on the help site that I mentioned above.
You might have missed this sticky post that gives workarounds: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/uploading-a-file-stuck-at-100-what-to-do/

    Thanks Yani –

But I don’t believe any of those suggestions apply to my situation.

The export/backup file is 1.5 GB, well under the 2gb max.

The host is on the supported list.

For import, the file doesn’t get any further than .05% when it gets stuck.

When attempting to Restore, the error message I get is undeniable and emphatical: “Restore” functionality is available in a paid extension.”

That’s the part I don’t get. Why is it telling me to pay for the Restore functionality?

    Mari
