Free WordPress hosting?

    Hello

    I have been asked to build a Web site for a charity in WordPress about which I know nothing. I know ASP and some C# and not PHP, and I know MS Access and not mySQL!

    However, I have to start somewhere. Once I download WordPress and begin to build the site, is there a free WordPress friendly server that I can upload my pages to so that I can see how the whole thing looks online?\

    Finally, what is the latest version of WordPress, please?

    We typically don’t recommend free hosting providers around here, as they often offer crippled servers that prevent WordPress from functioning properly.

    There are a few recommended hosting providers, and if you really want a free blog, try WordPress.com instead.

    The latest version of WordPress is 3.9.2.

    There are free hosts available, but they are pretty much as good as you pay for… If you do a search here you’ll see lots of issues with free hosts. You can use that for a development platform if you wish, but don’t expect any of them to be quite so stable.

    The lastest version of WordPress is 3.9.2, and you’ll always be able ot download the latest verion here.

    Very many thanks to you both.

    I haven’t got a problem paying for a host but because I have not used WordPress before I would prefer to get a general idea of how a site may look. So thanks for the recommended hosting providers!
