Free WP blog or payed WP Theme?

I have a client who is an architect. One of his projects has just been featured on the front cover of a very popular design magazine in South Africa. My client does not yet have a blog or website and we would like to give him quick exposure to tell people about this remarkable achievement.

I would like to send out a mailshot to his client database and invite them to read more about this article and was thinking of placing the article on a blog. What I need to know is, do I need to purchase a WP theme now that includes a blog and only set up the blog in the meantime or can I simply create a very simple blog now and transfer the blog to his WP website once the website development has been completed?
