Freeze zoom-in when max-zoom reached

Hi,

Is there anyway when max zoom is reached to lock the zoom-in part of the zoom control to stop the viewer going passed this point and getting a grey map area? Alternatively to stop zooming in any further. The map suddenly disappearing looks like the map has broken.
