    There is an error in the “Space control” page : French punctuation asks to have a thin non-breakable space before ??!; and after ? but a normal non-breakable space ( ) before :

    What exactly does not work? There’s a seperate setting on the General page (thin non-breakable spaces are not supported in some browsers, so by default they are replaced with  ).

    It’s not that something doesn’t work ; there is just a French typographical error.
    In French typography, we must use a thin non-breakable space only before this characters: ??!;
    For the colon after a word, we must use a normal non-breakable space (and not a thin non-breakable space.

    Ah, I see. You mean the text of the Settings page itself. For historical reasons (i.e. as to not break translations), the description is not technically correct. The typographical fix itself does differentiate between : and the other punctuation marks.
