French translation not working

Hi,
I have the same problem, I get mixed french and english..
My site https://pouille85.fr/calendrier/ is configured in French and my fr_FR.po file is complete.
What can I do ?

same problem with Bulgarian – .po file is fine but switching to Bulgarian gives a mixed English and Bulgarian.

So sorry for the trouble here with translations. The latest version of the plugin (3.10) does indeed contain a number of new strings that did not existing in past versions.

That said, we fully rely on submissions from the community to keep our translations as updated as possible. You can actually see the progress on all languages here.

In the meantime, here’s the process for updating and submitting language files for the plugin–we do offer free licenses for submissions that get included in upcoming releases. ??

A heads up would have been very much appreciated though, I took the time to study your release notes and didn’t read anything about translations / strings being deprecated – then again I might easily have missed it, not sure…

Anyhow, these strings are not at all “new” but were existent in the previous version (at least 80-90% I’d guess). My client doesn’t understand why something that worked before (and was translated fully) now is rendered incomplete.

You have had a lot of work with the plugin itself so I can understand that some things cannot be fully provided and/or thought of – on the other hand you would have spared yourself quite some support hours ??

Lookin forward to the upcoming release.

I do not really Understand what we can do because i have checked the french file ( french language ) and its translation is good! All English words are translated in french so why the plugin mix the language ??
Example: ” Upcoming Events ” or ” Previous Events “

thanks for the instructions – they worked for me. Problem is that there are non-translated lines in the new release, so I’ve done them for Bulgarian and will upload them acc. to your process.

Hi from France. Same problem here. It’s a total mix between english and french in what appears to be the same strings. I’ve understood that this plug-in can’t be translated with WPML so it relies on its own translations that are actually broken. Best regards.

Just check if upcoming events is two seperate words..
See if you translated the word upcoming and word events individually in the .po file as well…
i know there is string called “Upcoming events” but that does nothing even when translated rather its the individual words translation that worked for me…

leanderbraunschweig, that is a fair question. We, like many WordPress plugins, do not mention transltion changes in the changelog. Virtually every single release will have a number of them, so it is one of those things that basically happens without saying.

Anyhow, these strings are not at all “new” but were existent in the previous version (at least 80-90% I’d guess). My client doesn’t understand why something that worked before (and was translated fully) now is rendered incomplete.

The strings actually are new. It’s how WordPress and computer localizations in general work. So if “upcoming events” existed in the old plugin, but in the new one it was split up into “upcoming” and “events” then you have two new translations, and deleted the old. In this case though, “Events” was already translated in the old one so that carries over, and we only have one new translation. I know it’s no intuitive, but computers never are. It’s just how they have to work.

To everyone in this topic, basically the issue is that your translation needs to be update. Checkout this guide for contributing to the new translation The Events Calendar: Guide to translating a plugin. As outlined, there might even already be an update.po file from someone else who udpate the tranlastion since 3.10. You can download the latest from translations.theeventscalendar.com.

I have checked all the words and “upcoming events” isn’t in two seperate words..
However I have downloaded the new translation and it is ok now.

Thanks for letting us know idabonnin. Basically upcoming events is a concatenated string in 3.10. It has to do with the new capability we added which allows you to change the word “events” to something else, such as “shows”.
