• Hello,

I’m not too sure why, as a blog admin, I am frequently disconnected from my site.

After searching, I landed on this plugin page telling the default session duration on wordpress, if doing nothing, is 24 minutes.

In my case, sometimes I won’t get disconnected during four days, already being logged in when I load up an admin page (most often, the comments), and staying logged in for long durations.

But in average 2 times a week, I’ll open the blog admin, check the comments during 2 minutes, click 4 new tabs to post blog posts, write a first blog post (duration : 3-4 minutes), click to publish it… and find that my session has expired, or find that I have been disconnected and need to reconnect.
The other tabs with post-new.php will then sometimes trigger something surprising to me, I’ll reload them to have a page with my valid logged in status again, write my blog post, and when I click to submit it, I may frequently be shown instead a wordpress page telling a weird question along the lines of “are you sure you want to do this ?” – at which point I hit back in my browser, copy my post’s contents to my clipboard, and click New Post again and submit it again from scratch, this time successfully.

It’s no biggie, not a horrible problem, but it’s still troubling me.
    Please, would someone know
    – what may cause these disconnections ? (I suspect bots trying to log in, I don’t use the default username but there’s no preventing wordpress from showing my real username in the authors page and in the RSS feed, but that sounds weird, coming from a different IP that shouldn’t be triggering a disconnection)
    – how that may be adressed ?

Thanks if you can help ??

    Hi,

I’m not entirely sure what is wrong with your site at this time, but it sounds like it might be cache related.

Are you running any cache plugins, or does your host provide any cache services as part of your hosting package ?

    Hello,

Hmm, yes, I am behind WP Supercache, and I also have Cloudflare providing basic CDN services to my website. Wouldn’t have imagined it might have a relation…

Are you also running the CloudFlare plugin?

I happen to use that plugin, yes…

    Hi,

Apologies for the delayed followup to this.

That’s good, I was afraid you were missing the plugin (it’s important to make sure CloudFlare works properly with your admin side of things).

Are you self hosted or using a shared host of some kind? It could be something like a manual session cleaning process being overly attached and grabbing sessions before they should be cleaned perhaps

I am indeed self-hosted, on a good dedicated server (meaning : with plenty of spare resources). I found no special cron jobs or tasks done around the moments of my disconnexions, and no particular peaks in server monitoring. As these things happen at random times, I don’t find events to which to link it to…

I’m afraid I can’t think of any specific reasoning for this then short of suggesting looking into what plugins you are running and seeing if any of them do anything (cache plugins, security plugins or similar).
