Fresh install proves there is def something wrong with the plugin

I’ve had many problems with the plugin. After a lot of monkey-ing around, I decided to do a fresh WP install and then installed Multi Importer (most current versions of both).
I configured the plugin settings first, activating Auto Post, then I added my feeds.
Immediately the plugin started pulling news stories from my feeds. That’s great… until I start looking at the record number discrepancies.
1. Under Posts, it shows I have 472 posts. (before adding feeds, post count was zero)
2. Feed items under Multi Post at the exact same time shows 756. (before adding feeds, feed items count was zero)
3. The, I looked at the flf_searchable_news table via My PHP Admin. There, at the exact same time, it shows 389 records.
This just does not make any sense. Settings and Chron log possibilities aside, what could explain this? Right now, I have zero confidence that this plugin provides trustworthy results.
