I am a bit worried it will try to automatically reformat stuff like page names without my permission. Is there definitely meant to be a button to press to format text?

I am really looking for a tool that is just a button in the visual editor to intelligently format titles with set rules (ie don’t capitalize ‘a’), ie H1, H2 and nothing more… is this it?

@nancyeashley Sorry I missed your post. To be clear, there is NO button on the visual editor (toolbar). FriendlyCase, simply follows the rules you set up in its Setting panel and makes changes to Titles on Posts and Pages.

@david1103 There’s no button to format text via the Visual Editor. In FriendlyCase Settings you can set up specific rules for which words should remain lowercase, UPPERCASE or “as typed”. FriendlyCase then applies these rules to Post or Page Titles. FriendlyCase will not alter any other page elements unless it’s a title.

Perhaps Text Beautify – https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/text-beautify/ is more along the lines of what you need?
