From cold fusion to wordpress

You certainly CAN create the site on a local installation of WP on your computer – see:

But the downside of that is that moving it can be a bit involved – see:

Another alternative would be to ask the hosting company if they can give you a temporary domain name to use until you are ready to switch over or to register a “throw away” domain name to use for creating the site – then you’d switch that over when you’re ready.

I like the idea of using a “throwaway” domain. However, what happens to the links when I change domains. For example if the domain is www.xyz.com and an post or page may be linked as www.xyz.com/boilegg – what happens when I change the domain to ourcity.com? Will the links all reflect the new domain (ourcity.com/boilegg)?

Can this be correct be a search and replace tool as referenced in the moving wordpress link your gave?

Yep, that’s pretty doable with a plugin such as –

Of course, always back up a database before doing something like that (Just gotta say that every time…) :).
