Unfortunately the plugin in sending emails from the email address given by the user as “to” address by default. This is bad behavior because of DMARC policy.

Please use the settings currently set up for the installation, because that is what you usually want to test when installing this plugin.

  • Hi @josch87,

    Thank you for reaching out!
I am not sure I understand completely so please bear with me.
This plugin only checks to see if an email is being sent not necessarily how or where it displays in the inbox/spam folders. We are open to improve it – can you please explain a bit more what were you trying to test and how? It would help us understand this issue better.

    Thank you,
    Mihaela

I was trying to test if wordpress is sending mails. Unfortunately the plugin used the send to address as send from as well. This is never a good idea because of DMARK/DKIM – even in a test scenario.

The email will not be in any inbox/spam folder because it is denied by DKIM/DMARC rules. Testing not possible. That of course only applies to emails were domain has a DKIM/DMARC rule.

Is there anything else I can provide you with?

    Thanks
    Aljoscha

Thank you for explaining! Did you enter here: https://gyazo.com/4d8686a911f8686a211806f3c5557a94 the same email as your administration email address?
If yes, then that’s most likely what happened.

You can check the option ‘set custom header’ and change the ‘from’ address.
Please let me know if this helps.

    Warmly,
    Mihaela

    Yes, I did.
Changing the email header helps. It would just be great to test with the standard header that php mailer is using for the installation.

By default WordPress sends mails from the email address set up in your dashboard > Settings > General. You have there ‘administration email address’ – it uses that.

You entered in the plugin’s settings ‘Send test email to:’ the same email address as your administration email address thus causing the issue described.
If you were to change the ‘Send test email to:’ email address and enter a different one from your administration email address then you won’t need to change the headers and you would use the standard header.
    Hope this clears things out!

    Warmly,
    Mihaela
