from /topic/ to /category/ in category page URL

Hi,

I have updated my wp from a old version to 3.5 and seems that doing so category page url changed from /topic/ to /category/ and this without redirecting from old to new url.
Question is: is this a “standard” change? If yes, shall I set redirect manually aniway? (since wp is not managint itself)
