• Hi there,

First of all: I’m using the ‘Velo’ theme, and I’m using the ‘Front-End Users Plugin’ to make the front end of my site accessible to users I created only.

After updating to WordPress 4.7, my site won’t load after logging in as a ‘user’ to the front end. There’s no error, except for the grey ‘loading dot’ that keeps on flashing. The back end is working fine as far as I can tell.

Any ideas? Major thanks in advance!

Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Sixteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    Hi James,

Thanks for your quick response. I deactivated the plugins, with no effect. I switched to twenty sixteen, with no effect also, unfortunately.

Could it also be that some redirections within the backend have gotten mixed up because of the update? On my phone, the homepage isn’t loaded properly also after logging in to the front end, but when scrolling up and down, I sometimes see a flash of the pages I should be seeing, as if they are behind the white ‘load screen’ with the grey flasing dot.

    Thanks again,
    Frank

Weird, that “gray flashing dot” you describe is definitely not a part of WordPress.

You still saw that with *all* plugins deactivated and the Twenty Sixteen theme in use?

    Hi James,

If I deactivate the front end plugin, I can’t access the front end anyhow and my homepage is showing a remark regarding the front end plugin, because it can’t access the plugin I guess. Apart from this plugin, there was only one more, which I deactivated when in twenty sixteen theme.

I get from your reaction that it’s unlikely (or even impossible) that after the update, some directions from one page to another altered?

It’s hard to say, to be honest. There are currently 48,451 plugins at https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/ and those are just the free ones, so we can’t test with every plugin before an update goes out.

That’s why there’s a lengthy public beta period during which we trust the plugin developers themselves with test against, and the first public beta for 4.7 went out way back on October 28: https://www.ads-software.com/news/2016/10/wordpress-4-7-beta-1/

Is https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/front-end-users/ the plugin you were using? If so, I suspect it was bound to break at some point. It hasn’t been updated for 5 years and only claims compatibility up to WordPress 3.3.2. If that really is the case, do you have a backup of your site before the upgrade?

There is https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/front-end-only-users/ which has a similar name. If that is the plugin you’re using, then I recommend I recommend asking at https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/front-end-only-users so the plugin’s developers and support community can help you with this.

    Hi James,

    Sorry for my late reply!

I’ve been tweaking and carefully trying to find out what the problem is and I think it’s not the front end users plugin (it’s the last plugin you mentioned by the way).

For some reason, the homepage won’t load when it’s set as ‘Velo homepage’, which it needs to be in order to show the sections. When I change it to ‘Standard template’ for instance, it does load, but then it won’t show the sections of course. I can’t however, figure out why this is? Hopefully you can?

Anyhow, thanks for all your time!

Ok, since that is a commercial theme, we ask that you please go to their official support channel, so you can get support from the people who know it best: https://sunrisetheme.ticksy.com/

Forum volunteers are also not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why it is not working properly. Other community members who may have faced your issue might be able to help you but your best bet is your product’s developer. Keep in mind we encourage you to use the official support venues, as it allows the developers to be aware of issues with their code and gives back to the community in a more robust way.
