front-page and home sidebars

    Unfortunately, that’s the way WP works. When you set a page to the home page & a page to the blog page the WP query treats both as the same page.

    Does that mean that I have to have the same sidebar on both my home page and my blog page? If so, that’s more than a bit ridiculous.

    Yes. Simple Sidebars cannot tell the difference because WP treats them as the same page.
