Frustrating login problems

  • Obviously I am missing something glaringly obvious here. I’ve followed to the book every stage of installing WordPress.

    I unzipped the file, adding a new database on my webserver, followed by a user with all the privileges and then uploaded the WordPress files onto the same server. I changed the config file name to wp-config.php and ammended its contents to include the correct database name, username and password. I then directed my browser to https://www.example.com/wordpress (this is the directory of where my files reside).

    All I get however is the “Error establishing a database connection” page. I’ve been stuck on this for quite a while now and just can’t see where I am going wrong. Any tips?

  • Have you tried deleting the data base and re-doing it?
    Checked wp-config.php to ensure it matches your database info?

    I’ve tried adding a second database and changing the wp-config.php but still I have no joy.

    My consulting my File Error Log messages on my server’s control panel I notice that the error message is this:

    File does not exist: /home/example/public_html/favicon.ico

    Has this anything to do with it?

    Ah could it be that I have MySQL versuib 4.1.22-standard and I need 4.2?

    We’re stretching my knowledge here, but that could be it. Does your host offer 4.2?
    When I try your posted link I get “the web page cannot be found” of course, because of the “example.com” (can’t be used.

    No that isn’t it, the readme.html file states that MySQL 4.0 is needed. I just don’t understand what the problem could be.

    Just a suggestion.
    Try installing to a different directory, not example.com/wordpress. Of course you will need to make a new database and configure wp_config.php I think this is where the problem is. I could be wrong though.
