FSE navigation blocks, multiple menus

You might want to give more details like why you need 2 menus. What is the purpose of the menus. Do they need to appear and be shown on different pages based on content. You might need to create different templates and apply them if that the case. Different templates can use different menu systems.

Really I’m looking for technical help, not UI. The site requires a two-tiered navigation similar to https://almadelmar.org, a pretty common layout.
The navigation would appear on all pages, it’s mobile vs desktop I’m trying to address.

The menu at the site you listed are usually referred to as mega menu. Here a block that does that type of menu. https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/megamenu/. You would have to go to your header template in the site editor and replace the menu block with a new menu block that does this functionality. Try searching the plugin repository for mega menu Gutenberg blocks.

One thing to keep in mind is that FSE themes changes are stored in the database and not in a physical file. So if you want a hardcopy of this you will need to export it and replace the template file in your theme.

The menu isn’t 2 menu it still a single menu it just list options in a single div.

Yes, the main menu on almadelmar.org is a mega menu, but you’ll see there is another navigation menu above that containing the “newsroom” etc.

On mobile I’ve combined those two menus into one hamburger menu (not a FSE site).

Here I’m trying to find if folks have done this, combined menus on mobile, in FSE.

Here How I would do it. Go to theme editor and open the header template part.
Create a group box for the header and add a column to it with 2 different columns.
The left side for your logo . The right will hold your two menu.
Create a table with 1 column and 2 rows and add your navigation to each of them.
You will probably have to adjust the row height till it looks right.
You might also have to adjust the z-axis with CSS for the top menu so it doesn’t drop down behind the bottom menu.

This depend on what theme you are using and the template parts in that theme. You can adjust styles and settings for blocks in the Theme.json file. If you are unsure on how to use theme.json you can find tutorials online.

All the changes again will be saved in the post and post_meta table in your database and not to a physical file. If you want file that contains these changes be sure to export them.

Again, I’m not having any trouble creating the two menus, but in displaying the two menus as one on mobile. I guess I’ll need to post my question differently in hopes of finding help with the problem I’m having.

For anyone else looking for help in FSE menus I would definitely recommend against using a table in your navigation.

You don’t have to use table if you don’t want. If you are using FSE you have to use the nav block which is a react component used by WordPress for theme development.

FSE themes use Gutenberg blocks. So if you want 2 menu you have to use 2 Nav blocks in the theme. The backend of your site is JavaScript not html. All the components are React components not html.

The tables and the groups are not part of the menu. You have to have a way to add in the Blocks.

Have you even used the Theme editor to see how it works or understand the parts of an FSE theme?

In the Navigation Block settings, you can create multiple menus in the setting options (3 dots to the right of the word Menu).

You’ll se in the original posts and some replies that I’m not having any trouble creating multiple navs, but in combining them into one menu on mobile.
