• I am using the Twenty twenty-four theme with WooCommerce and have a requirement to show sub-categories (not products) on a category page. This has been easily achieved in the past.

However regardless of the settings being set correctly (Customize > WooCommerce > Product catalogue > Category display > Show subcategories), and the Products (beta) block having “Inherit query from template” and the category “display type” set to Subcategories.

I have tested this on both the customer dev site and also another clean wp instance but get the same result: https://robg52.sg-host.com/product-category/category/ – only products show.

Is there an issue with FSE themes and WooCommerce or have I configured this incorrectly?

  • Hey there, @therobgregory! Thanks for contacting us. I’m happy to help you.

I’ve run some tests on my website and it seems this is an issue with FSE themes.

Since they use the Site Editor, selecting the subcategories on the customizer won’t affect it. The template should be changed on the Site Editor, but I was also not able to achieve this.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

I’ll report it and share the GitHub link soon so you can follow it for updates if you wish.

We’ll do our best to fix it as soon as possible.

We can’t specify a date when the bug will be fixed, it is still in progress. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you, and we thank you for your patience.

In the meantime, the workaround for it would be to switch to a classic theme such as Storefront, for example, as it will show it correctly.

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help or if you have any questions.

    Have a wonderful day!

    Hey, @therobgregory!

I’ve reported this here. You can follow the GitHub issue for updates if you wish.

After some further consideration, I came to the conclusion that this is not exactly a bug, as it is working as expected, so I’ve reported it as an enhancement request.

As I mentioned, please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help or if you have any questions.

    Have a wonderful day!

    Hi, @carolm29!

Thank you for your quick reply to this and for acknowledging the issue. Great that this has been added to GitHub and I will follow the progress over there. Unfortunately we can’t move to a different theme as the site has been redeveloped on a FSE theme so would take far to long to rebuild.

Maybe I’ll dev a custom block to handle this whilst I wait for the issue to be resolved.

Do these issues tend to take days, weeks or months to be fixed? For planning purposes it would be useful to know.

    Hello @therobgregory,

Do these issues tend to take days, weeks or months to be fixed?

The timeline for resolving issues on GitHub can vary greatly depending on the complexity of the issue, and other factors. Therefore, I’m unable to give an exact date of when the issue will be solved. However, our team is dedicated to resolving issues as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Creating a custom block in the meantime could be a good temporary solution while you wait for the issue to be resolved.

If you need any further assistance or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
